Peculiar looking fans are nothing new when it comes to sporting events, but I for one don’t expect to see them at PGA Golf Tournaments. The Ryder Cup at Valhalla might be the exception, with all sorts of characters showing up to cheer on their their favorite Yank or Euro players. Some were dressed as leprechauns & clowns, but what surprised me most was that Steven Hawking decided to leave his wheelchair at home for the day and come out to root on the British Ryder Cup players. …

Tiger has said he will not be attending any of the Ryder Cup matches or ceremonies at Valhalla this week. Tiger has said that he will watch the matches on T.V., but will not be at the venue in person. Can’t say I blame him. It must be difficult to sit back and watch the competition knowing you should be out there playing, but are physically unable. I think we’ll see a few more Ryder Cups featuring TW in the future.

Cheyenne Woods, the niece of the world’s best golfer, is playing competitively for the Demon Deacons, ranked 12th in the NCAA by Golfweek. Approached by several universities, including Tulane and Tennessee, Woods said she chose Wake Forest because of its academics and golf program. Woods has played in charity matches with Tiger in support of his foundation and, though she doesn’t speak with her uncle on a regular basis, said he inspires her. Strong wind felled a TV tower and some trees at Valhalla Golf Club on Sunday, five days before the start of the Ryder Cup.
The PGA is working to clean up all damaged areas and is confident that when spectators arrive on Tuesday for the first full practice round.
The Ryder Cup matches between the United States and Europe will open Friday
