Payne Stewart’s son Aaron playing at Pinehurst

Aaron Stewart, son of the late Payne Stewart, is playing at the Pinehurst No. 2 course in this weeks North South Amateur event. It’s only the second time the 20 year old has played the course where his father won the first U.S. Open played at that venue.

“A lot of people talk about, ‘It’s been 10 years,’ (and) if this is going to be particularly hard because it’s been 10 years,” Aaron Stewart said. “Anybody that’s lost someone who has been such a big part of their lives, you think about that person every day. So it’s not like 10 years is going to be any different than seven years or something like that. It’s still going to be another day when you’re thinking about him.”

It’s great to see Aaron carrying on the legacy of his dad, who is greatly missed in the golfing world…knickers & all.

Aaron will be fine at Pinehurst. I am sure it will be an emotional day for him, or maybe not emotional, but an anxious day. He knows everyone has their eyes on him which will only add to the pressure. If he is anything like his father, which he has proved to have the spark of talent as Payne, he will come through!
