Tiger misses the cut…but at least we have Tom Watson?

tom-watson-british-2-c_600Never thought I’d say that…I’m still trying to figure out exactly what’s going on over there at Turnberry.  Tiger is going home early (who saw that coming) and a 59 year old man is leading after the second day.   Add to that Mark Calcavecchia, the 1989 British Open champ, stands one shot back, and several other big names, including Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen and Miguel Angel Jimenez, are two back.

I guess if you’re going into the weekend of a major without TW on board, you couldn’t ask for a more interesting leaderboard to follow.  Rumor has it conditions (wind) are expected to get more difficult over the next two days, so we’ll see how these old guys can stand up to the 30mph breeze that whips through that place.

What a great ending, and man I was pulling for Tom, just like all of America. Cink is a very worthy champion though, and glad he has finally broke through. What we have to remember, even though Watson lost, The Jug is in the hands of an American again!!

It was great to see Cink win…but man the story that Watson was creating was one for the books. It’s hard to root against Cink, but I think most of us were hoping Tom could pull it off. Nice to see the Jug in the US.

Golf is one of the games where a 59 year old man could beat a young chap. That is why I love golf.
