One more tip you've forgot to mention please tip your caddy extra after all he or she is loosing money by carrying your bags because it takes 6 plus hours for you and your party to complete 18 holes of golf because your game is weak plus they have to work extra hard finding all the balls you hit on the other side of the fairway, in neighbors back yards in the pond in the ruff, sand traps and replacing all the divots you caused from hitting the ball that's a lot of extra work for your caddy newbie.

One big mistake people do when starting out is to only use clubs they feel comfortable with, like a seven iron. even if u r a slicer, u got to hit with the clubs u are supposed to use.
A beginner must learn about golf etiquette, this is very important to start playing. In addition, I think most of the people go to the golf course too early.

This may sound cliche but the most common mistake I see new golfers make is not keeping their "eye on the ball". That is the most important fundamental of all and cannot be over emphasized, even for better players.
